Hi. I'm the CEO, Nathaniel Tavasti. I established this catering company in Los Angeles in 1991. My dream of entertaining started as a child, but my interest in cooking quality foods came at 10 when I moved in with my dad, who was a bachelor before he then became a single parent. I tired very quickly of the top ramen and tv dinners that I was offerred so I set out to learn how to cook the fine foods that I had previously been accustommed while living with my mother, and frequenting my great grandmother's home, who was a servant cook to a wealthy family down south. Many of the recipes I use now were handed down from her, including her fabulous Ice Box Lemon Pie. Whilst in college majoring in business, I also studied privately in the culinary arts. I found my niche in fusing together gourmet foods with a Southern or West African flair. I also worked at some of the largest and elite culinary staffing agencies in Los Angeles which also afforded me work in the catering departments of the Regency Club, Wolfgang Puck, and the Atheneaum Club learning the ropes of what makes for fine dining.
My personal desire has always been to feed the world. Although I established JAH'S World as an elite specialized catering company that serves those who have achieved a certain status in life, I also discovered another mission. Philanthropy. As the company built it's reputation catering private parties and student film projects at the American Film Institute, we were also providing community service to the inner city through it's non profit wing; JAH'S World Foundation.
JAH'S World Foundation was incorporated in 1997 and was the conduit through which Baldwin Hillls Public Library was able to provide reading coaches to over 40 illiterate and subliterate students daily. We recruited the volunteer reading coaches from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and South Pasadena (the demographic we catered to), and matched them with students for regular on-going tutoring.
In 2002, our self realization center and church became the satelite location for a charter school that took in troubled teens who were expelled from local middle and high schools. There, they were groomed in culinary arts, performing arts, and the art of maximizing innate potential, while seeking their high school diploma. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, the school was closed in mid 2004, but we were able to graduate and employ several students.
Now, as we continue to dazzle and entertain our elite clientele, we continue to seek out ways to feed the rest of God's people meeting their immediate human need, as well as their mental and spiritual need. 10% of all gross revenues are sown into non profit charities.
I, myself, have a sponsored child through World Vision, and have succeeded at getting all of my full time employees to do the same. As the company re enforces itself as the "caterer of choice" for the elite, we also hope to feed more and more starving people around the world through our non profit efforts.
